“We’re Working On It” Queen Latifah Says Of Living Single Reboot; Do You Want It?

When we think of the best Black girl squads on TV there's "Living Single" and "Girlfriends;" that's it. Of course, Issa Rae is doing wonders to revive Black girl friendship on cable TV but that doesn't mean we wouldn't appreciate a blast from the past, a la a "Living Single" reboot, and, luckily, Queen Latifah says it might be a possibility. During an appearance on "Watch What Happens Live," a caller asked the Queen if she could ever see bringing "Living Single" back to life since reboots are all the rage right now and she answered:
“Funny you should ask. We’re actually working on it...It’s not there yet, but hopefully we can get it happening.”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_wb-kqmfTw Hopefully indeed. Queen obviously has been working nonstop since her "Living Single" days and Kim Fields recently revived her spot in the limelight with her appearance on the "Real Housewives of Atlanta." Kim Coles has done hosting and TV gigs here and there, and John Henton has been focusing on stand-up since surviving a near-fatal car crash in 2000. We personally caught up with T.C. Carson and Erica Alexander to ask them "Where You Been?" since the popular Fox sitcom went off the air in 1998, and it looks like should this opportunity come to fruition (make it happen Netflix) the entire cast should be free to make it happen. Check out our interviews with T.C. and Erica below. Are you excited about this "Living Single" reboot news? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kV_xnQFY2w https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hLsoHMvRpSU

“Urban Myths” Cancels Broadcast Feat. White Actor As King Of Pop Following Anger From Jackson Family

[dotstudio id="587909f39fcf70170eafa7d4"] The initial confusion over the decision to cast British actor Joseph Fiennes, who is White, as Michael Jackson in an episode of the upcoming satirical series Urban Myths should have been a sign that this was all a bad idea. But after releasing the trailer for the show and even receiving an eloquent tongue-lashing from the King of Pop's family, particularly daughter Paris Jackson, the episode in question has been trashed. [caption id="attachment_782472" align="aligncenter" width="1068"] Actor Joseph Fiennes[/caption] Sky Television, which is the broadcast company that will show the Urban Myths series, decided to pull the episode that features Fiennes as Michael Jackson. The entire series is meant to take a comical look at rumored stories about Hollywood stars. As we told you earlier this week when the trailer was released, the episode "Elizabeth, Michael & Marlon" was to be about Elizabeth Taylor (played by Stockard Channing), Marlon Brando (played by Brian Cox) and Michael Jackson (played by Fiennes) taking a road trip out of New York after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Urban Myths director Ben Palmer told The Guardian that Fiennes's performance is "sweet," "nuanced" and "characterful," not malicious. But following the response from those in Jackson's family, Sky felt it necessary to cut the episode altogether. In case you missed it, Paris Jackson was pretty disgusted by the portrayal of not only her father, but also Taylor, who was her godmother:

@TheMJCast i'm so incredibly offended by it, as i'm sure plenty of people are as well, and it honestly makes me want to vomit.
— Paris-Michael K. J. (@ParisJackson) January 11, 2017
In a statement, a representative for Sky said pulling the episode wasn't a decision they took lightly, but felt was a necessary one. Even Fiennes understands the choice. "We have taken the decision not to broadcast Elizabeth, Michael and Marlon, a half hour episode from the Sky Arts Urban Myths series, in light of the concerns expressed by Michael Jackson’s immediate family. We set out to take a light-hearted look at reportedly true events and never intended to cause any offence. Joseph Fiennes fully supports our decision." The episode was scheduled to air in April, however, even the trailer has been pulled from YouTube in the hopes that people will forget about it but still give Urban Myths a chance. So if you missed out on it, you probably won't get the glimpse into the episode that the rest of us had. That's probably for the best. To be clear, Jackson had said in the past that he didn't want a White person to portray him in projects, and despite his changing appearance, he told Steve Harvey in 2002 he was proud to be Black. Buy Black Friday: Vanessa Rae Wells’“Forever I Love Obama” Sweatshirt

As the final days of President Obama’s presidency come to an end, I find myself emotional whenever I see him, his wife, his children or his Vice President on the screen. The feelings were particularly strong this week as we watched President Obama deliver his Farewell Address from Chicago this past week. I know I wasn’t the only one who found myself teary-eyed and runny-nosed. There are no words to describe the pride, joy and hope we felt watching him lead this country with more grace, dignity, class and maturity than any other president I can remember. Especially as a Black person. The love is real, forever. It was a conversation similar to this one that sparked the idea in my sister, Vanessa Rae Wells’ head to design a sweatshirt reflecting our feelings for our outgoing president. Inspired by Lil Scrappy and Lil Jon’s “F.I.L.A (Forever I Love Atlanta),” check out the “Forever I Love Obama” sweatshirt. If red is not really your shade, you can check it out in other colors like the ones below as well as hunter green, gray, dark blue, and maroon. If you're feeling the design and want to bring it to your closet, you can get your sweatshirt, here.

Veronica Wells is the culture editor at MadameNoire.com. You may have answered that question thinking, what other kind is there? But there are several according to CareerCast which just released its ranking of the 10 least stressful jobs in America, and the results are surprising. CareerCast ranked 200 jobs by their level of stress, looking at criteria such as risk of injury, tight deadlines, physical demands, and working with people. “Each of the jobs were given a "stress rank" from 0 to 100, with 100 being the most stressful,” reported Yahoo. Here's what CareerCast found to be the 10 least stressful occupations. Do you agree?

Diagnostic medical sonographer (stress score: 4.00; median annual salary: $63,630; projected hiring growth by 2024: 24 percent)

Compliance officer (stress score: 5.73; median annual salary: $65,640; projected hiring growth by 2024:3 percent)

Hair stylist (stress score: 6.71; median annual salary: $23,710; projected hiring growth by 2024:10 percent)

Audiologist (stress score: 7.31; median annual salary: $74,890; projected hiring growth by 2024: 29 percent)

University professor, tenured (stress score: 8.17; median annual salary: $72,470; projected hiring growth by 2024:13 percent)

Medical records technician (stress score: 8.57; median annual salary: $37,110; projected hiring growth by 2024:15 percent)

Jeweler (stress score: 8.95; median annual salary: $37,060; projected hiring growth by 2024: -11 percent)

Operations research analyst (stress score: 9.02; median annual salary: $78,630; projected hiring growth by 2024: 30 percent)

Pharmacy technician (stress score: 9.10; median annual salary: $30,410; projected hiring growth by 2024: 9 percent)

Medical laboratory technician (stress score: 10.31; median annual salary: $50,550; projected hiring growth by 2024:16 percent)

Is This Petty? I Told Him He Couldn’t Text His Female Co-Worker After Hours

$

I think we can all agree that having the phone numbers of some of your co-workers is a perfectly normal thing. I mean, who else can cover for you when you're late for the pettiest of reasons? Seriously, having a few numbers here and there stashed away for a "Hold up, do we have tomorrow off?" kind of day and other work quandaries doesn't sound problematic. But what happens when your significant other does quite a bit of chit-chatting with a co-worker of the opposite sex after work hours? I have a girlfriend dealing with such a dilemma currently. Her husband is a good guy, and while she doesn't think he's necessarily cheating with the co-worker (yes, she looked through his phone to confirm), she does feel as though his correspondence with said co-worker is reaching an inappropriate level. She initially questioned if they were doing too much when he started mentioning her in conversation more often at home. If he talked about a new movie, he would say he knew about it because "Taryn* told me about it." If they checked out a restaurant in the neighborhood they live in, which the co-worker sometimes hangs out it in, during dinner he would say "Taryn recommended this place!" and she would soon lose her appetite. Basically, there was just too much damn talkin' about Taryn. As it turns out, there was also too much damn talkin' to Taryn as well. According to my friend, they would send each other messages throughout the evenings. And while her husband never tried to hide such correspondences, the fact that he spent so much time talking to another woman whom he also gets to spend a large segment of the weekday with at work rubs my friend the wrong way. So she told him. She let him know that his messages with Taryn are strange, and if the shoe was on the other foot, he would be less than pleased as well. However, he brushed her concerns off as her overreacting and reassured her that it all was just being friendly -- nothing else. And so, the messages continued. Then one day while out walking around their neighborhood scoping the scene for somewhere to grab a bite to eat, my friend's husband said he would text Taryn briefly to see if they should try a new Caribbean joint the couple was pondering over. For some reason, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. When they returned home, my friend, highly irritated after saying little during dinner, told him not to talk to Taryn anymore outside of work. It caused quite the commotion in their home, but she reminded him that their marriage should be his main priority, not babbling on and on about minute things with a co-worker when he's not at work. He didn't agree to anything in the moment, though she hasn't seen him on his phone as much. However, they've been walking around on eggshells with each other for the past few days. So I guess the question is, even if you don't think your spouse is talking inappropriately with their co-worker, is it a problem if they talk to them a lot? I don't think it's weird for a married man to have friends who are women. Sometimes these women can even offer the right perspective when a couple is having a disagreement. And while that's nice and what not, there is also something odd about spending more time talking to that person than you seem to talk with your own spouse. Even if he's not doing anything wrong, and even if Taryn isn't seeking his attention for risqué reasons, as it was pointed out by my friend, if the shoe was on the other foot, all hell would likely break loose. At the same time, she can't tell a grown man what to do. If she trusts him, she should be able to trust that he's not stepping over the line. However, there is a difference between complaining because you don't trust your partner and complaining because your partner is doing the absolute most. She has good reason to let him know how all that chit-chatting is impacting her in the context of their relationship. It's about boundaries and respect, folks. So if he knows what's good for him, he should stick to water-cooler rundowns and lunchtime chats and save after-hour talk for the Mrs... But as always, that's just my opinion. What say you? Is it petty to be bothered by your significant other texting with their co-worker excessively after hours? Is it also petty to tell them they can't talk to that co-worker outside of work anymore? Image via Shutterstock
